The Double Jeopardy of High Cholesterol and Cholesterol Drug (Statin) Intolerance
- Up to 25% of people who take cholesterol drugs (statins) develop some side effects
- The most common side effects are nausea, headaches, constipation, muscle weakness, muscle soreness (myalgias), lack of energy, abnormal elevation of liver enzymes and muscle enzymes
- Up to 10% develop lack of energy and myalgias (muscle soreness). Rare cases of Rhabdomyolysis with kidney failure have been reported with cholesterol drugs(statins)
